Safety Sense Patch with the Fire Department

October is National Fire Safety Month.  To combine the GS Motto of "Always being prepared" and National Fire Safety month we invited a local Fire Department to speak to our girls.  It was a great combination because we started earning our Safety Sense Patch.

Our meeting with the Firefighters was a very informative and entertaining hour.

One very important thing we learned is having an EDITH plan. EDITH is an acronym for Exit Drills In The Home.

The gentlemen spoke on fire safety.

The girls showing their best manners.

Stop. Drop. Roll...

Then they got paged for a real life emergency.  No worries, they came back withing 10 minutes.  It was fun to see the Fire Truck leave on a mission.

After they returned they showed us what a Fireman would look like if our home was on fire and for us not to be scared.

After the fire fighters spoke we got to tour the truck and got a partial group shot.  We are missing 3 girls.

Of course, you can't get a group shot without getting a funny picture!!!

The girls seemed to have a great time and learned a couple very important things too.  Also, thank you parents for all your wonderful treats for the Fire Department.  I know sweet snacks are greatly appreciated!

At the 2nd November meeting we will be working on our Emergency Contact List and EDITH to conclude earning our Safety Sense patch. If your daughter was not at this meeting and you would like her to earn this patch I will hand out the requirements.
